Running Start is a program for 11th and 12th grade students, which
allows them to take classes at Peninsula College tuition-free for both
high school and college credit while still enrolled in high school.
Students must take and pass the Peninsula College placement test (ASSET
or COMPASS), complete a Peninsula College application, and work closely
with their high school counselor to complete a Planning Form. A junior
must have 11.0 credits to qualify for Running Start.
Students participating in Running Start must notify
Port Angeles High School by the last school day of April of their intent
to participate in the program the following fall. The student is
responsible for paying for books and lab fees for the courses and for
his or her own transportation.
If you are planning to transfer to a four-year
college following Running Start, you need to take the SAT or ACT.
Transfer credits earned at Peninsula College through Running Start or
prior to high school completion may be interpreted differently by
private or out-of-state institutions. Running Start classes do not
fulfill PAHS Academic Honors requirements. Please see your counselor for
further information.
