District News Feed

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Port Angeles School District acknowledges and honors Treaty Day across our school community. In 1855, the United States of America entered a solemn agreement, known as the Point No Point Treaty, with the Klallam, Chimakum, and the Skokomish tribes. Isaac Stevens, Governor of Washington Territory, presented the tribal leaders from these independent sovereign nations with this treaty on the northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula, now known as Skokomish. In agreeing to this treaty, these tribes ceded ownership of their land, more than 750,000 acres combined, in exchange for a small reservation in Skokomish and hunting and fishing rights. The Klallam people alone relinquished over 400,000 acres. Most, however, remained on the Olympic Peninsula or traveled via canoe, across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Beacher Bay in Canada, refusing to relocate 100 miles away from their homes to the Skokomish reservation.
Winter sports and performances are off to a great start! This message is regarding changes to spectatorship to upcoming games and events. The Port Angeles School District believes athletics and extracurricular activities are critical for student and family mental health. We can offer these activities safely and with guidance from our local health authorities, but it will take everyone doing their part and complying with safety protocols and guidance. Thank you for remembering that this is about the students and their well-being.
We look forward to welcoming back students and staff on Monday, January 3rd. To prepare for the return to school from holiday break, we are reaching out with important updates from our local health department and information from the district.

Live theater is back! The Port Angeles Theatre Department, in partnership with the Music Department, presents Into the Woods, directed by Mark Valentine. The famous Stephen Sondheim musical combines several well-known fairytale stories and characters to create a funny, poignant, convoluted, tragic, and entertaining musical yarn. It is both a light-hearted romp and a cautionary tale. Characters such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack (of "Jack and the Beanstalk" fame), Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf, the Witch, the Princes, the Princesses, the Baker, the Baker's Wife, and many others all meet up on their various journeys into the woods. The music is very much a part of the narrative and is almost continuous.
